The study of how food impacts upon our genes and how our genes respond to different foods is called Nutrigenomics. Nutrigenomics is a rapidly developing field of science and nutrition.
What we know to date is how our genes metabolises (break up) certain components within food and how this can impact upon our health.
As dietitians we are driven by clinical based evidence and it is important to us that we are providing accurate and science based advice. The genetic testing we provide is conducted through a Canadian company Nutrigenomix which is based at Toronto University.
The testing is done by a saliva sample, no need for needles, and looks at how your body metabolises the following components within food:
